A SUSTAINABILITY MESSAGE WITH HUMOUR
The Somerset dairy business Wyke Farms is the first national cheddar brand to be 100% self-sufficient in energy generated from solar and biogas.
Through its strategy, called “Wyke Farms 100% green”, the business has found a way to support the ecosystem by adding in an anaerobic digestion plant, which turns manure into organic fertiliser and produces gas for the farm, dairy and local town of Bruton. It is well on its way to being one of the greenest brands in grocery.
Once there were more than 3,000 farmhouse cheesemakers in the West Country. Wyke Farms is one of fewer than 10 that are left and has become the largest independent cheesemaker in the UK.
Shuttersmith has helped to tell the Wyke Farms green story with humour thanks to Nancy the loveable cow who actually talks!
Take a look at our film. We hope you don't think it is too cheesy!

GIVING A VOICE TO SUSTAINABILITY
Footprint Awards celebrated its 5th birthday in 2015 and since its inception the level of sustainability and responsible business practice in the foodservice sector has changed beyond recognition.
Today, these two pillars are accepted as clear business principals in organisations up and down the supply chain, but the goal posts move constantly. What 5 years ago was regarded as foresighted innovation is today regarded as the bare minimum and it is no surprise that it is the most successful businesses that have embraced the concept, changed behavior, and are now leading the way towards a more sustainable and responsible industry.
Footprint Awards represents the annual celebration of the work that organisations in the foodservice industry are doing to in some way redress the balance for the benefit of themselves, their community and the industry at large. It is a celebration of initiative and innovation, of commercial imagination and endeavor.
Shuttersmith captured highlights of the awards and gave a voice to many of the winners and nominees present on the night, as well as the farm animals!
